Pet Scoop Blog

If you're a dog owner, picking up dog poop is a dreaded task. With over 469,000 doggie households, 40% having two or more dogs, and each K-9 companion pooping roughly twice a day - that's a lot of poop!

Pet Scoop has been keeping yards tidy & clean for 18 years now and on April 19, 2012, celebrated our millionth yard cleanup. One million yards cleaned - can you believe it? We had a hard time wrapping our heads around it too.

The lucky client was D. Gibbons and her dog Sasha in Denver. A group of Pet Scoop employees, including owner, Sam Johnson, presented the client with a bouquet of balloons, a gift certificate good for one year of scooping service, and a gift basket filled with toys and goodies for Sasha. Sasha was such a cutie. She loved being taped and having an audience to delight.

One lucky client guessed the exact day and city of the millionth cleanup on our Facebook contest and received one month of free scooping service. All others who participated in the contest received a bag of Doggone Good Compost which is high quality and 100% safe soil amendment made of Pet Scoop's composted dog doo.

"We know people dread poop pickup duty, which is why we doo what we doo," says Sam, President and Scoop Master. "After months of snow and cold weather, most dog owners have a substantial amount of Spring yard cleaning waiting for them. As the oldest and most experienced pet poop pickup service in Denver, we feel priviledged to have served the Denver dog owner and attribute our success their support and referrals."

I am your friendly neighborhood pooper scooper. I am from Chicago and grew up in a large family (11 kids). We always had dogs. We bred Brittanys. Most of the time they were trying to keep me out of their food and water bowls. I enjoy online gaming. I am a martial arts expert. I have been doing tae kwon do for 30 years and have multiple black belts. I enjoy meeting your dogs!

Did you know we are more that just a scooper service? Here are some things you may not have known about us.

  1. We love dogs! We have even returned dogs to non-clients that we have found wandering the streets.
  2. We care about the dogs’ health. We take time to leave clients samples of waste in vet supplied containers if blood or other abnormalities are noticed. We have caught early stage cancer so that with treatment the dog(s) live a long, happy life.
  3. We help keep your home safe and secure while you are hard at work. We let clients know if gates, doors, or windows are ajar or open if they are not normally. We have even put out a fire in a client’s yard.
  4. If we notice your dog knocked over its water bowl during the heat of summer, we refill it.
  5. We bring up your empty garbage cans and/or place your newspaper near your door.
  6. We pick up any hazards in our clients’ yards like dead birds, squirrels or rabbits, broken glass, nails or tacks, trash that could be ingested, etc.
  7. We take time to play with our clients’ dog(s). We love to have fun playing chase or fetch. We also enjoy a break for some R & R and cuddle time with our canine friends!

I am a Colorado native. I went to Colorado State University. After I got my bachelors degree in zoology, I returned to Denver where I met and married my husband. We have 2 children, William and Rachel, who are in high school. We love cars and animals. We have old cars (1915 Model T and 1929 Chevy) and muscle cars (his & her 1968 Firebirds). We own a mini farm currently housing a horse, goats, pigs, chickens, and, of course, cats and dogs!

I moved to the Rocky Mountain region from Southern California in the late 60's then on to Colorado via Albuquerque, NM in 1976. After raising 4 children, attending dozens of school plays, soccer and basketball games and other required "parental unit" activities, closing one business, owning a bunch of cars, mini vans and pets I ended up at Pet Scoop in 2010. Two years later and 20 pounds lighter ... hands down the best job I have ever had....I love working with your pets.
